The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a formal clarification regarding the ongoing electronic registration (E-registration) exercise, stating that it is exclusively for new members joining the party.
According to a statement released by the State Publicity Secretary, Mr Valentine Onojeghuo, the current exercise is aimed at capturing individuals who have newly joined the APC, particularly those defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties, as well as first-time entrants into partisan politics.
“The ongoing E-registration is strictly designed for new members of the party in Delta State,” the statement read. “It primarily targets individuals who have recently defected to our party and those joining afresh.
“It is important to emphasise that this exercise does not affect or invalidate the status of our old or existing members.”
Onojeghuo further noted that the initiative was launched with the full approval of President Bola Tinubu, following consultations with the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and in collaboration with His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, making Delta State the pilot location for the nationwide rollout.
“This programme represents a strategic step in modernising party membership records while embracing digital transformation,” he said.
To dispel concerns among existing party members, the APC leadership assured that a separate and comprehensive E-registration exercise for them would be conducted in the near future.
“Our old members are assured that their membership remains valid, intact, and fully recognised by the party. Adequate notice will be given when their registration exercise is set to begin,” the statement reaffirmed.
The APC also expressed gratitude to new members for their overwhelming response to the registration drive, describing it as “a signal of a new dawn for the party in Delta State.”
“We are encouraged by the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the new entrants. It reflects a growing confidence in the APC’s Renewed Hope agenda and a collective desire to move Delta forward,” Onojeghuo added.
The party called on all members and stakeholders to remain united and focused on building a stronger political force across the state.
“Let us move forward in unity, strength, and renewed purpose,” the statement concluded.
