One person was on Tuesday evening killed and many others were injured as armed gunmen invaded Olorunda village via Atan along Idiroko Expressway in Ogun State.
The head of the village, Chief Atanda Muraina reportedly escaped death as the armed men reportedly made efforts to attack his house.
The police in the state have arrested ten members of the gang and recovered two guns, ammunition and assorted arms from them.
Some of the arrested suspects were arrested in the ceiling of some houses in the area, inside a freezer at a beer parkour and inside a saloon.
Residents of the Ogun community stated that the armed hoodlums, numbering about one hundred shot sporadically and injured anybody around the village.
The village head, while speaking on the attack said “We were in court, when we got a report that some hoodlums had started attacking our village.
The village head said, “We returned and made a report at Atan Divisional Police Station and the DPO directed one of the policemen on duty to follow us and see things.
“When the policeman, who followed us to the village saw how heavily armed they were, he asked that we should return to the station.
“The DPO quickly called the Area Commander, who mobilised men from the area command, Agbara Division , Igbesa Division and other squads to join hands with their counterparts from Atan.
“Before the Tuesday attack, some armed men came about some days ago to claim that they won a court judgement and that they wanted to take possession.
“They were not accompanied by the court bailiffs and neither was there any policeman with them . They just brought armed thugs to harass our people.”
He called on the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State and the Ogun State governor to save the thousands of residents of Olorunda from the attackers.
The village head said ” The IGP, the Ogun. state Commissioner of Police and Prince Dapo Abiodun should save us from these people. They are very powerful and deadly. They have been forcefully taking over people’s land in different communities around us ”
Another elder of the village, who simply identified himself as the Balogun of Olorunda said that the attack on the community occurred after the court had ordered them to maintain the status quo .
He said, ” We have been to FCID Alagnon, Zone 2 ,Ogun State headquarters,Eleweran, Agbara area command and we have been warned to wait until the court decides.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the image maker in charge of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola failed as calls to her mobile phone were not answered as at the time of filling this report.
