One person was confirmed dead while seven others were injured in an accident which occurred at Aponmu village, along Akure/ Ondo Road on Monday.
The accident, which involved a Toyota bus and an articulated lorry, was attributed to over-speeding and failure to adhere to traffic rules by the two drivers.
One person was said to have died instantly when the Toyota bus with registration number Ondo REL 815 XA was hit by the lorry with registration number XA 705 DKU.
An eyewitness disclosed that the drivers of the two vehicles were unhurt, while seven passengers sustained serious injuries.
The accident caused traffic gridlock in the area for some hours, hindering vehicular movement, while men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) could be seen at the scene.

The eyewitness said those injured had been taken to the hospital by some good Samaritans before the arrival of the FRSC officials, while a family member of the deceased deposited his body at the hospital morgue.
Confirming the accident, the Head of Operations of FRSC, Mr Segun Ogungbemide, said the accident was caused by over-speeding and wrongful overtaking.
Ogungbemide also confirmed that the victims had been taken to the hospital, while the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue.
He said: “A total of nine people were involved in the accident; seven persons (six males and one female) were injured and one person was confirmed dead.
“Our men moved to the scene of the incident but those injured have been taken to the hospital.
“We want to advise motorists to be extra careful during these ember months.”
