The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal road accident at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road, which claimed one life and left two others severely injured.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the incident as “deeply unfortunate.”
“Findings by security operatives revealed that a laden truck with registration number EKY 121 YJ and a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus with registration number LND 490 SD collided while the bus was recklessly vying for right of way along the main carriageway from the Agric axis,” Bakare-Oki said.
He explained that the impact of the collision had tragic consequences. “In the harrowing incident, one passenger, precariously seated at the doorway of the Mazda bus, was thrown from the vehicle and tragically crushed beneath the rear tires of the truck, resulting in instant death.”
“Two other passengers (a male and a female) extricated with severe injuries, were immediately conveyed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) to the Ikorodu General Hospital for urgent medical intervention,” he said.
Bakare-Oki said the body of the deceased was released to the victim’s family by the Nigeria Police Force. He also noted that the rescue operation was carried out under tight security provided by personnel from the Owutu Police Division.

“To restore unimpeded vehicular movement across that corridor, the accidented vehicles, the commercial Mazda bus and the articulated truck, were evacuated by LASTMA officials,” he stated.
The LASTMA boss expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. “On behalf of the agency, I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” he said.
He also issued a strong reminder to road users, urging all motorists to exercise caution, restraint, and a sense of civic duty when driving on highways, particularly along heavily congested routes like the Ikorodu corridor.
