A tragic incident occurred at the female hostel of the Federal University, Gashua, in Yobe State, resulting in the loss of a three-hundred-level student from the Department of Geography.
Mohammed Goje, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the unfortunate event to Channels Television via telephone.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out around 1 pm on Saturday, prompting a chaotic evacuation as students fled to safety.
Some students were rushed to the specialist hospital in Gashua for medical attention, while others managed to escape unharmed.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, speculation among students suggests that it may have been triggered by a cooking gas mishap.
This incident comes just one month after a similar fire engulfed a female hostel at Yobe State University in Damaturu, the state capital.
