A first-year Mass Communication student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, identified as Oluwaseun Adeleye, was brutally hacked to death on Monday.
The tragic incident occurred in the Opomulero area of Owo, Ondo State, less than a month after he secured admission into the institution.
According to a student source, Adeleye, who was also a musician and the course representative of his class, was found dead on Monday. The source added that he was macheted to death by unknown assailants, with the motive behind the killing still unclear.
“He was a fresher who had spent just three or four weeks on campus. In fact, he was a course representative. It is sad that we lost him. Unfortunately, he was macheted,” the source lamented.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Samuel Ojo, described the situation as “unfortunate.”
Similarly, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, told journalists that the case had been reported to the police, and an investigation was underway.

“Yes, it’s a case of suspected murder of one Seun Ojo Adeleye, an ND 1 student of Mass Communication. The police have begun an investigation into the incident,” Odunlami said.
The authorities have assured the public that efforts are being made to uncover the perpetrators behind this tragic incident.
