The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State has sacked its State Secretary, Comrade Jimmy Akinyan, over alleged misconduct.
The decision was announced on Tuesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, during a press conference by the State Chairman of the party, Barrister Gbenga Akinbuli.
According to Akinbuli, a stakeholders’ meeting of the party found Akinyan guilty of “grave misconduct,” ranging from insubordination and financial impropriety to anti-party activities and acts of sabotage during elections.
He explained that the decision was unanimous, stressing that such behaviour violated the party’s core values of loyalty, integrity, and discipline.
“The decision was unanimous. Such behaviour violates the party’s values of loyalty, integrity, and discipline,” Akinbuli stated.
He further revealed that a five-man disciplinary committee, headed by the State Legal Adviser, had been set up to review the matter and recommend whether Akinyan should remain a member of the party.

However, when contacted about his removal, Mr. Akinyan dismissed the development as “dramatic and baseless, without any substance, just like all the allegations therein.”
He urged party members to disregard the announcement, insisting that his purported removal would not distract them from their bigger goal.
According to him, “the party in the state is fully prepared to wrestle power from the ruling APC in the coming election.”
Meanwhile, the party has appointed Mr. Femi Ikoyi as the new State Secretary of the SDP in an acting capacity, pending the outcome of the committee’s review.
Akinbuli stressed that the removal signalled the party’s resolve to rid itself of indiscipline and sabotage while repositioning the SDP as a credible opposition in Ondo State.
