A faction within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), known as the PDP Crusader Group, has opposed the adoption and nomination of a Board of Trustees (BOT) member representing the Southwest geopolitical zone.
The group also expressed dissatisfaction with an alleged plan to impose a new chairman on the party in Ondo State following the recent death of the former chairman, Hon. Fatai Adams, who passed away after a brief illness last week.
These concerns were outlined in a statement issued by the party and signed by its Coordinator, Hon. Mayokun Akinmoladun, who described the steps as disastrous, suggesting that the party might be heading towards another crisis ahead of the forthcoming election in the state.
According to the group, the nomination of a Board of Trustees member from the state should be a collective decision of the party, emphasizing that the nominee must be an active member of the party. Akinmoladun pointed out that the proposed BOT member was not a PDP member in the state, expressing displeasure over the choice.
Akinmoladun highlighted that the party’s reward system could discourage individuals from working for the party and its success in the upcoming election.
The group questioned the actions of some party leaders who removed the late Chairman, Adams, before his demise.
He stated, “We disapprove of the autocratic and one-man show of the former governor of this state, who unilaterally, without involving the State Executive Committee (SEC) or the Elders Committee, or any party structure, nominated someone who is not a PDP member as a BOT representative for the South West in the Ondo State slot.
“This is unacceptable, dehumanizing, and frustrating. It is a calculated attempt to undermine PDP and destabilize the party. Many issues are being linked to the fact that the former governor disliked PDP, and it appears to be a plan to destroy the party.
