ONDO state government on Monday banned the blocking of roads or streets across the state for any form of social or commercial activities in any part of the state.

To this effect, all the Council chairmen in the 18 local government areas of the state have been tasked to ensure and enforce the order in their local government area.

Disclosing this to journalists in Akure, Ondo state capital, the Special Adviser to the governor on Transportation, Hon Tobi Ogunleye said: “Henceforth blocking of roads for any social engagement across the state regardless of your position or status is hereby outlawed.”

The Special Adviser who said the enforcement of the law commenced with immediate effect warned that offenders would not be spared but would be charged to court.

He said no amount of pressure from any quarters would make the ministry to succumb to reversing the law

He also disclosed that it would become an offence for anybody to indiscriminately cross at the Oja Oba market, while he said that hawking on walkways would also not be allowed again by the ministry of transportation, saying usage of the pedestrian bridge at Oja- Oba market would now be made compulsory.

He said “an indiscriminate crossing or jumping across the railings in the market would now be an offence and attract penalties.”

“We are going to change the nonchalant attitude of our people towards the usage of the pedestrian bridge.”

“Government has assigned a Magistrate court to try every traffick offences associated with road usage.”

” We want to make the state free if volunteered hooligans. Non-usage of the pedestrian at Oja Oba market is now a serious offence.”

The special adviser said that 48 bus stops across Akure the state capital would no more be allowed as an abode of mentally derailed people or for trading but said the spaces would be available for people to paste their advertisements.
