Sequel to the call by the Ondo State House of Assembly, for urgent intervention to reconstruct the failed portions of Ipele-Idoani-Isua Akoko and Elegbeka-Ifon in Ose Local Government Area of the state, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) said work will commence on the road soon.
The lawmakers had specifically urged the ministry in collaboration with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to rehabilitate the roads to prevent hardship and multiple auto crash and to prevent kidnappers from operating on the road.
This was contained in a letter written to the House of Assembly by the Agency in reply to the demand of the state lawmakers, assuring that necessary steps would be taken to find a lasting solution to the road, while will commence on the road soon.
In the letter signed by one Engr.Olubunmi Adeyemi, the agency sympathized with motorists plying the roads, disclosing that palliative works were recently carried out on some critical points between Molege- Elegbeka-Ifon roads.
While describing the poor condition of the road as a serious threat to lives of Individuals, Adeyemi on behalf of FERMA pleaded with people of the state and residents of the areas to exercise patience as urgent measures would be taken on road soon.
“We really sympathize with the road users over the deplorable condition of these roads. These threats were caused primarily due to the absence of proper drainage system at the locations and the heavy downpour in recent times which led to the quick deterioration of the submerged sections of these roads”,he said.
Adeyemi further explained that the Agency is awaiting for the approval and release of funds from the Federal Government, saying the agency will ensure permanent solution on the repair of the spots.
Commenting on the letter, the Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, commended the agency for its swift intervention
He expressed displeasure over the terrible condition of the roads, and explained that the House decided to write FERMA on the need to carry out repaor on the particular section of rhe road.
Oladiji expressed concern that the roads had been abandoned for too long and seemed to be totally out of control
He called on FERMA to quickly intervene in the fixing of the roads as soon as possible, to put an end to the incessant abduction of motorists and travelers around the failed spots.
