Ondo Assembly receives Amotekun Bill

Ondo State House of Assembly, on Thursday, confirmed the receipt of the security Bill on the newly established Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.

An official of the State House of Assembly who confirmed this to Tribune Online said the Bill was transmitted to the lawmakers on Wednesday night by the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

He, however, said the lawmakers are currently on recess but man have to cut short their vacation to give the bill an accelerated deliberation.

Confirming the development, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun said the lawmakers may resume earlier than scheduled because of the importance and sensitivity of the bill which requires the House to give it critical scrutiny and ensure it passes through the normal procedure.

The Draft Bill, which was approved by the State Executive Council on Wednesday during its meeting for onward transfer to the state House of Assembly for scrutiny and passage.

The state commissioner for Information and Orientation. Donald Ojogo, had earlier said that “the Draft Bill has 6 Parts and 44 sections. It is also gratifying to disclose that every apprehension or fears expressed have been adequately looked into.

“This is even as Traditional Rulers will now have roles to play in the operations of the security outfit pursuant to its passage into Law by the State Assembly.”

Assuring the Federal Government of the complementary roles the security outfit would play, Ojogo said: “Government finds it pertinent to reiterate that this laudable initiative is aimed at complementing the efforts of the Nation’s security agencies.

” It is also necessary to encourage the good people of Ondo State to take maximum advantage of this opportunity.”
