‘Wives on Strike’ debuted in cinemas back in April, last year and the movie grossed over 15 million naira in 15 days, 57 million naira in 17 days and a whooping sum of 60 million naira after few weeks making it one of the top box office movies from Nollywood. Having released ‘Okafor’s Law’ back in March, Wives on Strike: The Revolution becomes Omoni’s second production in one year.
‘Wives on Strike ‘follows the story of a group of market women who decided to take matters into their own hands against their husbands in a bid to stir them into standing up for a young girl whom they wanted to protect from the wishes of her own father. The women, who hilariously interpreted their roles, set a series of events in motion to give the movie many moments of laughter without missing a beat on the reason for everyone to know why they are on strike.
In the sequel, ‘Wives on Strike: The Revolution’ movie follows these market women fighting against domestic violence after one of them was beaten to death by her husband. This leads to yet another strike by the women against their husbands forcing their hands to stand up for what is right and curb domestic violence.
With stellar cast such as Omoni Oboli, Ufuoma McDermott, Uche Jombo, Toyin Abraham, Sola Sobowale, Chioma Akpotha, Julius Agwu, Odunlade Adekola, Kenneth Okonkwo and more, Wives on Strike: The Revolution promises to be fun, intriguing, educating and definitely hilarious.
Omoni Oboli made her directorial debut with the romantic comedy ‘Being Mrs Elliott. Her second movie “The First Lady,” had also opened as the highest grossing opening weekend Nigerian film in cinemas while her latest ‘Okafor’s Law’ also had a successful run in Cinemas. Omoni’s works have featured in several international film festivals and have received recognitions far and wide. She remains the only filmmaker to have had all her movies as a major success back to back.
