Omo-Agege reaffirms commitment to quality education

Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has reiterated his dedication to impactful leadership and the promotion of quality education in Nigeria, emphasising the transformative power of education on society.

At the weekend, Senator Omo-Agege was honoured by the Class of 1979 of St George’s College, Obinomba, Delta State, with an award for Outstanding Infrastructural Development. The accolade recognised his contributions to the school’s growth, including facilitating major projects that have significantly transformed the institution.

Reflecting on the event, Omo-Agege credited the valuable lessons learned during his formative years at St George’s for shaping his character and career.

The Old Boys Association also honoured two other distinguished alumni: Dr John Uhomopibhi, a renowned medical doctor, for Promoting Academic Excellence, and Barrister Babatunde John Kwame Ogala, SAN, for his contributions to societal well-being and development.

Speaking after receiving his award during the Class of 1979’s 45th reunion party, Senator Omo-Agege described the recognition as a collective honour. He noted that it would inspire him and others to work even harder and embody the values of excellence instilled by St George’s College.

“As we gather here today, I am reminded of the power of education to transform lives and shape the future of our nation. I remain committed to making a positive impact on our country and urge my fellow alumni to do the same.

“I am reminded of the transformative impact St George’s College had on my life. The values of discipline, hard work, and excellence instilled in us have been guiding principles throughout my personal and professional life.

“I recall the countless hours spent studying, the rigorous academic environment, and the supportive community that encouraged us to strive for greatness. The school’s commitment to academic excellence, combined with its focus on character development, shaped us into the individuals we are today.

“I am proud to be part of the Class of 1979, a group that has made significant contributions to our nation across various fields. From business and politics to medicine and education, our class has demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication.

“Let us continue to uphold the values of St George’s College and strive for excellence in all we do. Let us remain committed to making a positive impact in our communities, our state, and our nation.”

During the ceremony, Senator Omo-Agege inaugurated a solar-powered water project he facilitated for the school. Recalling his time as a student, he shared memories of waking at 4 a.m. to fetch water from the Ethiope River for bathing and household use. The water project, he said, stemmed from his determination to ease the burdens of current students and ensure they have access to clean, readily available water.
