The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has appointed a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, as the chairman of a task force committee for its Engineering Residency Programme (ERP).
Recall that the council had earlier in 2024 announced plans to implement a one-year residency programme for engineering graduates to enhance their skills upon completing tertiary education.
To actualise this, the council, in a letter of appointment signed by its Registrar, Engr Prof. O.A.U. Uche, and addressed to the former APC national scribe, disclosed that the decision to appoint Omisore into such a role was in a bid to leverage his vast experience, exemplary leadership, and consistent commitment, among others, in the engineering sector.
“I am pleased to formally inform you that at its 185th Ordinary Meeting held on Thursday, 24th April 2025, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) approved the constitution and composition of the Engineering Residency Program Task Force on the Engineering Residency Programme (ERP).
“Following this approval, I am delighted to convey your appointment as Chairman of the Engineering Residency Program Task Force. Your vast experience and exemplary leadership, and consistent commitment, among others in the engineering sector, were the attributes considered to assign you this important national assignment,” the letter partly reads.
Continuing, COREN explained that the mandate of the 24-man task force team led by the two-term senator is to serve as the primary organ for advancing the implementation of its engineering residency programme.
“The Task Force is to secure institutional support, source sustainable funding from diverse sources, and advocate for the integration of the ERP with the National manpower development policy and framework of the nation,” the statement added.
