The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) at its just concluded 18th Convocation and the Investiture of New Fellows, which held at the Main Auditorium of the University of Lagos from August 10-12, 2016 elected new officials to run the affairs of the body for the next two years.
The new President is Prof. Olu Obafemi, fsonta, fesan, FNAL, prolific writer and frontline intellectual. The Nigerian Academy of Letters was inaugurated in 1991, as an apex organisation of Nigerian academics and scholars in the Humanities to promote, maintain and encourage excellence in all branches of humanistic studies. Its officers are elected at biennial meeting of the Academy. The other officials are: Vice President: Prof. Francis Egbokhare, FNAL; Secretary, Prof. Olutayo C. Adesina; Assistant Secretary, Prof. Maduabuchi Dukor; Treasurer, Prof. Tunji Oyeshile; and, the General Editor/Chairman Publications Committee is Professor Festus Adesanoye, FNAL. The members of the Publications Committee are: Prof. Sam Ukala, FNAL; Prof. Akachi Ezeigbo, FNAL; Prof. Amechi Akwanya, FNAL: Prof. Babatunde Ayeleru. Other members of the Executive Committee include the following: A Past President of the Academy, Prof. Emeritus Ayo Banjo, FNAL, NNOM; the Immediate Past President (IPP): Prof. B. Olatunji Oloruntimehin, FHSN, FNAL; and, the Foundation President, Professor Emeritus Ayo Bamgbose, FNAL, NNOM. NAL is also served by non-Executive members. For the years 2016-2018, its Ex-Officio Members include: Prof. Dan Izevbaye, FNAL; Prof. Emeritus Ben Elugbe, FNAL; Prof. Umaru Ahmed, FNAL; Prof. Sunday Ododo, fsonta. Prof. Unionmwan Edebiri, FNITI, OFR, (Professor of French and Barrister-at-Law) will serve as the honorary solicitor of NAL, while Professor B. Rotimi Badejo, FNAL was retained as the Newsletter Editor.
