St. Louis, Ibadan Old Girls Association (SLIOGA) has celebrated its alma mater’s 64th anniversary with the groundbreaking of infrastructural facilities at the school.
The event, held on the School’s Founder’s Day, Tuesday, at the school premises, was attended by alumnae, staff, students, and representatives of the school. It was described as an initiative aimed at making the school more conducive to learning.
The infrastructural projects to be constructed include a drainage system and the rehabilitation of the road network in the school.
Speaking at the event, the Global Coordinator, SLIOGA, Mrs. Isioma Oyarekhua, stated that the project is borne out of the alumnae’s commitment to the development of the school.
Oyarekhua, who was represented by the Coordinator, Education Committee, SLIOGA Global, Mrs. Funsho Balepo, noted that the groundbreaking of the project was held in commemoration of the school’s 64th anniversary.
She, however, appealed to the state government to support the school in the provision of more infrastructural facilities to encourage learning.
She said, “Today we are celebrating the 64th anniversary of the school. N ormally, we only hold a solemn Mass in celebration of Founder’s Day, but this year is celebrated in a special way with the commencement of infrastructural developments in the school.
“The Old Girls have been trying to work on the road network, which has been in a bad state for many years. The school’s drainage system is also in a very terrible state.
“We appeal to the Oyo State Government to intervene in the development of the school to encourage learning.”
Speaking, the Principal, St. Louis Grammar School, Ibadan, Senior School, Dr. Yemi Shadare, commended the alumnae for their steadfastness and uncommon dedication to transforming their alma mater.
She said, “Today we pay tribute to our founders who dared to dream big, our teachers, and alumnae who have made us proud with their achievements.
“We appreciate the alumnae for their steadfastness and uncommon dedication to transforming their alma mater.”
The event also witnessed a solemn Mass in the morning, and other programmes, including the presentation of awards to students of the school.
