The communication machinery of the Edo State Government received a major shake-up on Thursday as Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the appointment of veteran journalist and public affairs expert, Dr. Ebojele Akhere Patrick, as his new Chief Press Secretary (CPS).

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, the government described the appointment as a decisive step to reset, strengthen, and sharpen the flow of information between Government House and the people of Edo State.

Dr. Ebojele, a member of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, is a respected media professional whose footprints span some of Nigeria’s most prominent news platforms. He brings decades of experience to the Okpebholo administration.

He previously served as the Edo/Delta Correspondent for Channels Television and held key reporting roles with the New Nigerian Newspaper, Champion Newspaper, and Comet Newspapers.

Beyond journalism, he has distinguished himself as a lecturer, researcher, and public administrator—credentials that place him at the centre of the governor’s drive for clearer, more strategic, and more dynamic public engagement.

Government insiders say the appointment marks a strategic tightening of the governor’s media structure, aimed at boosting transparency and ensuring government programmes and activities are projected with renewed clarity and vigour.

Dr. Ebojele replaces Mr. Fred Itua, who is expected to receive a new assignment in due course.

With this appointment, the Okpebholo administration appears set to recalibrate its messaging, energize its public communication, and deepen engagement with the people of Edo State as governance advances into a more ambitious phase.
