Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding the immediate removal of the party’s state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
The protesters, who claimed to represent grassroots members from all 57 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the state, arrived at the Assembly complex early in the day, chanting solidarity songs and wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Ojelabi Must Go” and “We Want Fresh Leadership.”
Speaking during the protest, Tunde Afolayan from Mushin LCDA said the APC in Lagos had lost its connection with the grassroots under Ojelabi’s leadership.

“We are here to demand accountability and a return to true party values,” Afolayan told journalists.
“The chairman has failed to carry party members along. We need a leader who will listen to us and strengthen the APC ahead of 2027.”
The demonstrators accused the state chairman of sidelining internal democracy and weakening the party structure in several local councils, more reason ”Ojelabi must go.”
They warned that if immediate steps were not taken, the party could suffer severe setbacks in future elections.
A heavy security presence was deployed around the Assembly complex, with armed police officers stationed at strategic points to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Another protester, Mrs. Bisi Olabode from Eti-Osa East LCDA, criticised the current leadership for allegedly neglecting the core strength of the party.
“Grassroots politics is the soul of Lagos APC. If you remove that, you have nothing left. We need someone who can unify the party and reconnect with the people,” she said.
The protesters vowed to sustain their demonstration until the APC national leadership intervenes, warning of a looming crisis if their demands are ignored.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Pastor Ojelabi nor the Lagos APC secretariat had responded to the protest.
