A socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Youth Movement, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its recent adjustment of the timetable for political parties to submit their registers of members.
INEC had initially set the deadline for April 21, 2026, but following consultations with political party leaders earlier this week, the commission shifted the deadline to May 10, 2026.
The announcement was made on Thursday in Abuja by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Acting National Secretary, Mr Anderson Achili, praised the commission for demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness to stakeholders, noting that timely communication of such changes is critical to building public trust and enhancing transparency in the political process.

He said: “This adjustment shows that INEC values collaboration and is committed to ensuring that the democratic process is inclusive and credible.
“By consulting with political party leaders before finalising the new deadline, INEC has shown leadership that respects both the law and the expectations of Nigerians,” he noted.
He also urged all political parties to fully comply with the revised timetable and use the additional time to strengthen their internal processes.
Mr Achili emphasised that adherence to the commission’s guidelines will contribute to a more organised, fair and credible electoral system.
He reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote democratic values, citizen participation and the integrity of electoral processes in Nigeria.
