The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Soun Orumogege III, has called on Ogbomoso indigenes to unite and support the upcoming ‘Cradles Carnival’ in a bid to make the town a veritable tourist and investors hub.
Speaking at the fundraising dinner for the maiden edition of Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival held recently in Lagos, he emphasised that cultural event would unite his people and amplify the economic potentials of the community and its people to the world, stressing that the carnival was not just as a festive celebration, but as a strategic platform to bring the community together while showcasing its rich cultural heritage and economic potential to the world.
“We are courageous, bold, and enterprising,” he remarked, highlighting the global presence of Ogbomoso indigenes and their ability to make an impact wherever they are. The Soun pointed out that cultural events were an effective means of attracting people back home, encouraging a sense of community, and celebrating their shared heritage.
Oba Ghandi called for collective efforts to capitalise on these assets to foster economic growth and raise the profile of the region. He expressed gratitude to Ogbomoso indigenes for their ongoing support and assured them that, despite challenges, with their support, significant progress would be made towards realising the ambitious vision.
Prince William Adeleye, the chairman of the planning committee, in his address explained the carnival’s dual purpose; to celebrate local culture and to position Ogbomosoland as an attractive destination for diverse investors in key sectors such as agriculture, real estate, ICT, and manufacturing.
“The promotion of our cultural heritage and tourism is a central component of the 25-year development agenda of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III. The Soun of Ogbomosoland, this initiative is designed to foster unity and stimulate economic growth within Ogbomosoland. Since our inauguration in April, we have been proactive in our efforts, benefiting immensely from the cooperation and support of the sons and daughters of Ogbomosoland, as well as our friends both at home and in the diaspora. Their participation and contributions toward the success of the carnival have truly been invaluable.
In our pursuit of creating a world-class celebration that rivals events like the Rio Carnival in Brazil, the Carnival of Venice in Italy, and the Notting Hill Carnival in London, we humbly seek your support—financially, morally, and materially.
The committee has outlined a budget exceeding N300 million. His Imperial Majesty Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III has consistently shown his support for this initiative, and we appeal to the esteemed personalities gathered here today to join hands with him and the committee in making this historic event a resounding success by contributing generously.

The carnival will run for six days from December 19 to 24 with various activities including concerts, traditional displays, sports tournaments, food and fashion exhibitions, among other activities.
