Youths in the Offa local government area of Kwara have called for election of credible chairmanship candidate, irrespective of political party affiliation, to enjoy benefits inherent in local government financial autonomy in the area.
In a communique issued at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting of the Offa Community Youth Stakeholders in Offa signed by Mr. Abdulsalam Bayo Solution and Engineer Kabir Olasunkanmi Alabi, the people yearned for improvement in socioeconomic development of the area.
“Most people in our dear community are feeling the heat of irregularities and unjust distribution of development projects and allocation among the local government areas of the state. Thus, they are calling for a change”.
The youth also said that financial autonomy of local government across the nation can only be more effective and workable when the righteous chairman is elected for Offa local government regardless of the political party.
The youth, who frowned at alleged low level of input by the state government in Offa community, said that there is need to change directions from the incumbency.
“The youth also resolved that the growth of Offa community must definitely begin from the process of responding positively to absolutely changing direction from the present government and aligning with the progressive-minded people in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The youths unanimously agreed to give support to Hon. Salaudeen Lukman also known as Eluku Omo Adugbo of the PDP and endorsed him for the Offa community as the incoming chairman of Offa local government”.
They also reiterated that unity among themselves would go a long way to make them achieve success during this period, adding that the local government chairman, when emerged, “should not kickout the beehive after the honey has been gathered”.
The youths also requested further meetings with the progressive-minded elders and the PDP chairmanship aspirant for the Offa local government, Hon. Salaudeen Lukman, to actualise the vision.
