A prominent high chief in Odoralamo community, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, Chief James Odusoga Odukoya, has petitioned Governor Dapo Abiodun over an alleged plan to impose a new traditional ruler on the community.

Odukoya, in the petition sent through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, warned that any attempt to tamper with the stool could trigger a breakdown of law and order.

He alleged that the chairman of a development association, with the support of a top functionary of Ijebu North Local Government, was working to install Adeboye Dada as the Coronet Oba of the community.

The petitioner said the move was contrary to Odoralamo’s established rotational system, under which the traditional headship rotates among its four recognised quarters: Itun Aleke, Itun Aledo, Itun Nla and Itun Odeseso.

According to Odukoya, Dada’s quarter produced the immediate past Olori Ilu, who was also his father, and therefore should not produce the next ruler under the rotational arrangement.

He alleged that plans were underway to publicly announce and parade Dada as Coronet Oba on September 19.

Odukoya also challenged the association’s authority to handle chieftaincy matters, claiming it has no mandate to select, screen or install a traditional ruler.

He alleged that the organisation had, over time, assumed control of chieftaincy affairs without the consent of the community and urged the governor to stop any proposed announcement or installation pending due process and the determination of Suit No. HCR/55/2025.

The high chief further asked Abiodun to direct the local government to recognise him as the sitting Olori Ilu and involve him in the ongoing elevation and selection process.

He called for an inquiry into the alleged conflict of interest involving the council and Dada, and urged the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo and the Ijebu Traditional Council not to recognise any nomination  until the rotational principle and due process are observed.
