THE Daily Times of Nigeria on Monday unveiled names of personalities consisting former Presidents and Heads of States, media practitioner, captains of industries and other professionals to be honoured with Heroes Award as part of activities to mark its 91th anniversary which would hold on Tuesday in Abuja.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Mondayby the publisher/Chairman of the Fodio Media Group, the publishers of the newspaper, Mr Fidelis Anosike.
According to the statement the awardees are former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.
Among Media practitioners also to be honoured include, Chief Babatunde Jose, the pioneer Managing Director of the Newspaper, John Momoh of Channels Television, Linda Ikeji, Nduka Obiagbena of Thisday Newspapers, and Chris Ubosi while Nollywood has the likes of Peter Edochie.
The statement added that Captains of Industry, serving governors and other professional including the clergies were not left out as the governors of Anambra, Rivers, Borno, Kogi, Abia and Lagos States among others were also on the list.
Others are the Minister of State for Petroleum Mr Emmanuel Ibeh Kachukwu, Chairman of the Heirs Holding, Tony Elumelu and Paul Adefarasin.
According to Anosike, “Nigeria has so many citizens and statesmen who have made contributions towards National development and are therefore qualified for the Heroes Award.
He however, pointed out that a few were nominated for the award after painstaking processes as it was not possible to bring all Nigerian Heroes for recognition under one platform.
He pointed out that many Journalists and publishers made the list due to the challenging practitioners in the industry have had to face over the years with several of them having to pay the supreme sacrifice while discharging their legitimate duties to the nation and to humanity.
