THE wife of the state Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has advised parents to protect their girl child against early marriage, by engaging them in skills and other activities that would help them become useful to themselves and the society.
The wife of the state Governor, gave the advice while commissioning a skill acquisition centre built by the Member representing Ayamelum in the state’s House of Assembly, Honourable Uche Okafor, for his constituent, where the youths, women, and indigent persons would be trained on several skills like computer education, bead making, hairdressing, and sewing, among others.
While commissioning the project, Chief Mrs Obiano, said the action shows that Honourable Okafor has the need of the people at heart, calling on other lawmakers in the state to borrow a leaf from him by representing their people well and ensuring that dividend of democracy reach them as planned by the present administration.
Chief Mrs Obiano, called on parents to control early marriage amongst their female children by training them in skills or education, stressing that the days are gone when female children are considered as less important against their male counterpart, as according to her, females have proven themselves otherwise through their performances in all aspects of life.
Earlier, Honourable Okafor, said the project which was in line with the commitment of the pet project of the Governor’s wife, was born out of the feeling he has for his people and as part of his support to CAFE initiative, reaffirming the commitment of APGA government to ensuring high standard of living for the state’s residents.
He advised the people to participate actively in the free skill acquisition training so as to make his dream for them a reality. In their separate remarks, some of the trainees in the centre, Miss Gloria Enweani, and Miss Uju Ileanya, expressed happiness being among the beneficiaries, and noted that the training when completed, would help them to become self-reliant and helpful to their families, even as they promised to participate actively throughout the training.
