THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been described as a veritable tool for national cohesion and development which has over the years united Nigerian youths irrespective of ethnoreligious affiliation.
The assertion was made Thursday by the Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch B Stream II joint orientation course for Corps members deployed to Bauchi and Gombe states held at Wailo Permanent Orientation Camp in Ganjuwa local government area of the State.
The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Liman Bello, said that in its over 45 years of existence, the scheme has remained an instrument for monitoring the youths and preparing them for future leadership roles.
Mohammed Abubakar said that “As leaders of tomorrow, you must be knowledgeable and well grounded in all aspects of our National life. To achieve this, the orientation program is carefully fashioned to bring you in close contact with your fellow compatriots from different parts of the country and expose you to the culture and traditions of your host communities of service “.
He added that “This no doubt will strengthen and boost your innate sense of patriotism the result of which will translate to higher quality future leadership that will ensconce our nation on a higher pedestal among the comity of nations “.

The Governor, therefore, promised that government’s efforts at reconstructing and rehabilitating the orientation camp structures and facilities will be sustained so as to create enabling atmosphere for the success of the program.
Earlier, Bauchi state Coordinator of the NYSC, Afolayan James explained that at the close of registration, a total of 1, 725 Corps members consisting of 1, 071 males and 654 females were registered.
The Coordinator while assuring the Corps members of adequate security and other relevant things needed for the orientation program urged them to be of good conduct and make the state their home away from home.
