NYSC set to reform mobilization process

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, has said the scheme will reform its mobilization process for better improvement.

The DG made this known at the 2019 Batch A Pre-Mobilization Workshop held at Keffi Local Government area of Nasarawa State on Thursday.

The NYSC DG explained that the pre-mobilization workshop is a platform for the NYSC and other stakeholders to review issues in the mobilization with a view to addressing challenges and evolving strategies for improvement of the exercise.

“Over the years, we have tried to sustain cross fertilization of ideas in order to achieve a fool proof mobilization thereby enhancing the credibility of the process,” he said.

He however pointed out that despite the scheme achieving sustainable development in policies and deployment of infrastructure, there has been difficulty in the successful implementation of these policies especially with regards to mobilization hence the need for the workshop to afford NYSC and critical stakeholders brainstorm on a feasible way forward leading to massive reforms of the process.

“The theme of the workshop captures the thrust of our deliberations here today. I therefore sure you to share your wealth of experience and expertise to enable us remove all impediments to the mobilization process and especially ensure a hitch free 2019 Batch A exercise.”

“So we are here to review to the past mobilizations in order to find solutions to problems encountered in the present and future mobilizations. That is the essence of the workshop and I am very sure we will find a way out,” he said.

In his speech, Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State represented by Mr Silas Agara, Deputy Governor of the state commended the NYSC management for organising the workshop to find lasting solutions to problems hindering the smooth mobilization process of Corps members.

“Let me commend the NYSC management for the choice of Nasarawa State to host this important session in preparatory to staging of the 2019 Batch A mobilization exercise. The conduct NAD outcome of the review session such as this will add value to the management of the scheme’s orientation exercises in the country,” he said.

He added that the workshop will offer critical stakeholders in the mobilization process the avenue to brainstorm and evolve strategies for the success of the next mobilization exercise.

“I consider the theme of the workshop apt considering the commitment of the NYSC management to tackle headlong emerging challenges aimed at sanitizing the process. I am confident that this forum will afford participants the opportunity to hitches in the implementation of the mobilization policies,” he said.

In her introductory remarks, Mrs Nnenna Ukonu, NYSC Director, Corps Mobilization explained that in past mobilizations, the scheme observed recurrence of unwholesome practices and common errors associated with the mobilization process.

“We intend to brainstorm with critical stakeholders and come up with lasting solutions to these issues that have hindered mobilization process over the years as it concerns credible data collection and adherence to laid down policies.”

” I therefore wish to implore all participants to be frank and open in discussing these challenges and suggest ways of addressing them. I am optimistic that with your support, the scheme will surmount all obstacles at ensuring a hitch free mobilization process,” she said.

Participants at the one day workshop include NYSC management team, Student Affairs Officers (SAOs) from Corps producing institutions nationwide, representatives of National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) among others.
