The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim has revealed that the scheme would collaborate with financial institutions in the country in a bid to make available start-up loans for corps members to advance their business ideas.
Ibrahim who stated that the scheme would continue to be responsible and responsive to the development of the corps members, added that the role of entrepreneurship and skills acquisition cannot be over-emphasized in the growth of the nation’s economy.
The DG spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Orientation Course at the permanent orientation camp in the Ise-Orun/ Emure-Ekiti area of Ekiti state.
Speaking through the NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Mary Chikezie, He advised corps members to be committed and build on skills learnt during the three-week activities in the camp towards making themselves employers of labour.
According to him, ” I have received impressive reports on your participation in the entrepreneurial and vocational training conducted in Camp under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. I encourage you to build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training, this will go a long way in empowering you for self-employment.
“On our part, we are liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders with a view to providing start-up loans to enable you to actualise your business dreams. I wish to assure you that Management will continue to explore avenues for optimizing the impact of the programme.”
The NYSC boss while assuring the corps members that the authorities will continue to prioritize their security and welfare, urged them to avoid night journeys, parties and involvement in the politics of host communities.
“My dear Corps Members, as you proceed to your locations of Primary Assignment, I urge you to be security conscious at all times. Steer clear of acts that can put you in harm’s way such as staying out late at night, attendance of night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of car rides from strangers. You can rest assured that Management remains committed to your security and general welfare. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view of ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year, ” he said.
