The Coalition of Voluntary Youth Organisations under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in ongoing disagreements surrounding the leadership of the council.
Speaking at a world press conference in Abuja, the coalition urged all stakeholders, including the Minister of Youth Development, to embrace dialogue and avoid actions that could create tension among Nigerian youths.
In a statement jointly signed by Victor D. Anawo of the Middle Belt Youth Organization and Samson Onoja of the Youth Consensus for Good Leadership, the coalition expressed concern over what it described as “growing misunderstandings” following the recent NYCN leadership election.
According to the statement, the council had concluded an election process that produced a new executive, but subsequent administrative issues had led to confusion over the recognition of the elected officers.
“We are calling on the Federal Government to provide guidance and ensure that due process and unity prevail within the National Youth Council of Nigeria,” the statement read in part.
“Our appeal is for all parties to work together in the spirit of peace, fairness, and respect for the constitution of the NYCN.”
The groups urged Nigerian youths to remain calm and law-abiding while encouraging the Ministry of Youth Development and all concerned stakeholders to seek peaceful resolution through dialogue.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to working with the government to promote youth development, peace, and national stability.
