THE National President of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Comrade Alani Adeniji, on Tuesday, argued that nurses in the country deserved good remuneration for their services and better working condition.
Just as he advocated for the inclusion of nurses in policy formulation and governance of the country.
Adeniji said this in his address at a book launch titled: “Unionism and Professionalism in Nursing” written by Isaiah Owoeye, in honour of the heroic legacy of the pioneer General Secretary of NANNM, Oba Moses Olabode, the Omala of Imala land in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He appreciated the contributions of the monarch to the development of nursing services in the country while charging other nurses to imbibe his values and virtues so as to achieve their set goals.
“Nurses deserve the respect and regard of all. We’re at a time in history when some of the gains of unionism are under threats.

“We should all play our roles in the survival and support of the ideas and ideals of unionism for the dividends of economic growth and development.
“We must endeavour to imbibe these same values if we want to truly represent and honour the legacy of our icon,” Adeniji said.
The state chairman of NANNM, Comrade Roseline Solarin, appealed to the state government to pay all the deductions and contributory pension due to them.
She noted that “this is the proof of evaluation”, hence the need for government to fulfil its promises.
The event was attended by the Alaafin of Oyo kingdom, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; the Olu and Paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle; the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Ololade among other guests.
