The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given the Lead City University, Ibadan approval to commence doctorate programme in computer science.
The NUC’s approval was contained in a memo signed by the director of academic planning, Dr N B Saliu, addressed to Lead City University’s vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Kabiru Adeyemo, and dated January 20, 2020.
The letter enjoined the university to provide adequate human and material resources for the smooth take-off and sustenance of the programme.
According to the head of computer science department of the university, Dr Philip Achimugu, the commission gave the approval after an application by the university in July 2019.

He added that the application was followed by the visit of the accreditation committee to access the facilities and the preparedness of the institution on December 9, 2019.
Dr Achimugu who doubles as the acting dean of the faculty of engineering and technology stated that the university was committed to producing graduates that are industry-ready with relevant practical and entrepreneurial skills.
Preparatory to the commencement of the programme, he said the university had built workshops and laboratories with state-of-the-earth equipment, accompanied by well-furnished faculty building.
Achimugu, who is an Associate Professor of computer science with specialty in software engineering, said the institution had also and engaged experienced academic and technological personnel at all levels to ensure the smooth running of the programme.
