The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted Hensard University in Bayelsa State approval to offer 16 undergraduate courses.
As the first private tertiary institution in the oil-rich Bayelsa State, Hensard University aims to achieve excellence in academics, research, and entrepreneurship.
The university is committed to character formation, discipline, and service, adhering to global best practices across various disciplines.
Some of the courses approved include Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Mechanical Engineering , Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Anatomy, Marine Engineering and Physiology, and so forth.
A letter signed by Abubakar Girei, acting director of Academic Planning, NUC, confirmed the approvals.
Prior to the approval, the regulatory agency had in a letter dated January 22, 2025, approved some other programmes including Pharmacy, Law, Biology Education, Mathematics Education, Chemistry Education, among others.
All the courses are to be offered full-time, starting with the current 2024\2025 academic session.
In a statement, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dileep Kumar, expressed delight at the approval, commending the commitment of the university’s chancellor and former governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, to expanding access to quality education in Nigeria with Hensard global linkages.
He assured prospective students and their parents of the university’s dedication to providing a world-class educational experience across disciplines.
According to him, Hensard University is for academic excellence, practical skills, entrepreneurship, innovation, and holistic development.
“So, we are preparing our students for successful careers and life-long learning through our dual certification and partnership with different universities across the world to empower them to become fit-for-purpose and globally competitive graduates in their chosen fields and other legitimate endeavours.
He noted that the prospective students could get application details to study in the university from its website.
