According to a Press statement signed by the Public Relations of the Command, Mr Ibrahim Yahaya, a copy of which was obtained by the Nigerian Tribune on Monday in Minna, the suspected Cable Vandals were arrested by Operatives of the Corp after a tip-off by a concerned member of the release identified the suspects as Friday Samuel (25 years), Mark Ayuba (23years), and Awal Ali (30years), respectively .
Ibrahim Yahaya further disclosed that the suspects were arrested with some exhibits such as 1,200 meters of telecommunications armoured cable, two pieces of diggers and two galvanised steel which they were allegedly using to perpetuate the crime.
He said the three suspects have all confessed to the crime during the investigation conducted by Officers and Men of the Corps at the state Command headquarters, Tunga, Minna, the state capital.
The release added that the three suspects also confessed to having come to Niger State for their illegal operations from Adamawa and Yobe State respectively to look for a means of livelihood.
They were said to have blamed their decisions to go into criminal activities following their inabilities to secure jobs, adding that this led them to the act.
“They also confessed that they were also involved in the vandalisation of some cables belonging to the moribund NITEL while they all agreed to the crime but pleaded for clemency,” said Ibrahim Yahaya.
He however assured that upon completion of the investigation of the matter, that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.
