The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested two persons, 16-year-old Favour Idemudia and 25-year-old Precious Akpasuvbe for allegedly trafficking a 16-year-old minor (name withheld) to Burkina Faso for prostitution.
Parading the suspects, the Edo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Gbenga Agun, said the suspects allegedly trafficked the 16-year-old minor to Burkina Faso for prostitution.
He said on January 29, one Hope Friday reported a case of a missing 16-year-old sister and that she suspects Miss Precious Akpasuvbe 25, being behind the incident.
“Immediately, NSCDC combined team of Intelligent and Counter Terrorism Unit swung into action and arrested the principal suspect, identified as Alex Omoseve 47, boyfriend to Precious Akpasuvbe at Agbor Park area of Benin City.”
He said during the investigation, the corp discovered that the missing girl was trafficked to Burkina Faso for prostitution without the consent of her parents.
According to him, the suspects confessed to the crime while the victim has been brought back from Burkina Faso and has been reunited with her family.
He said the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
The victim in an interview with journalists said the suspect who often comes to play Bet9ja in her sister’s shop promised to take her overseas to work as a house help.
“But on reaching Burkina Faso, they told me that my work is to be sleeping with men and I started crying. I later begged someone who gave me the phone to inform my sister who wasn’t aware of my journey. That was how I returned to Nigeria,” she said.
The principal suspect, Alex Omoseve 47, said he knew the victim at her sister’s shop where he used to play belt Najia.
“She told me she wanted to travel and I introduced her to my girlfriend who knew the people over there to help her. I don’t know anybody there but my girlfriend was there before and she assisted her.”
On her part, Precious Akpasuvia informed journalists that they took the victim to Burkina Faso for prostitution and that they were paid N200,000 by her partner in Burkina Faso.
