The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Nigeria Forest Security Service, are to collaborate on credible intelligence sharing to end criminality, especially forest crimes in the FCT.
Commandant, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, speaking when he hosted the Commander of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, Kyauta Bawa, underscored the importance of such collaboration in fighting crimes and criminality including kidnappings and banditry.
Public Relations Officer, NSCDC FCT Command, Monica Ojobi said Odumosu, particularly charged the Commander of the Nigeria Forest Security Service on intelligence information sharing.
He lauded the decision of the group to work with the NSCDC considering the ongoing efforts of security agencies to stem the tide of vandalism and other forest crimes.
“As you know, kidnappers and bandits hibernate in the forests, working closely with you will make it easy for us to get intelligence information on the movement of kidnappers and bandits”.
“By working with other security agencies to end insecurity, there is need for prompt intelligence information and proactive measure, this will go a long way to end the issues of Vandalism of power and telecommunication installation that are domicile in the forests” he said.
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, further charged the Nigeria Forest Security Service to be proactive and report any act that is suspicious to the Corps for prompt action.
He stated further that because FCT shares boundary with states like Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi, there was always influx of different kinds of people to the FCT thereby making it prone to criminal activities and vandalism of critical installations.
He assured them of his preparedness to assist them in the area of training the officers when the need arises.
Earlier in his speech, the FCT commander of the Nigeria Forest Security Service, Commander Kyauta Bawa, said the group was committed to protecting lives and properties, preventing and combating forest crimes and enhancing security in Nigerian forests.
Commander Bawa, who was accompanied on the visit by the North Central operations commander and special Duties amongst others, outlined the area they required collaboration to include capacity building, community engagement and joint operations.
