The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina Command, has said that the agency has nabbed a member of staff of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), for allegedly stealing a prepaid meter.
Making this known while speaking with press in Katsina, the Command’s Spokesman, SC Buhari Hamisu, said the suspect was accused of trespass, tampering with the meter and theft.
According to him, the suspect, 38, a staff of KEDCO, Daura Regional Office, was arrested following a report by Alhaji Lawal Gadi of Tundun Wada Quarters in Daura, that the former removed his meter.
He added that the meter, which was found in the possession of the suspect, who resides at Low-Cost Housing Estate, Daura, would be tendered as an exhibit at his prosecution.
However, the commandant assures adequate security in the state as the command will not relent in its commitment to uncover all activities of vandals, economic saboteurs and other criminals in the state.
“The Commandant, Aminu Ahmad-Datti, thanks the general public for their continuous cooperation and urges for more support to security agencies by providing actionable and timely intelligence that will help uncover the activities of miscreants in the state.
“The command remains dedicated to ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for the good people of Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Vandals, thieves and those tempering with private property posed much danger to the socio-economic well-being of our society and must be flushed out of Katsina State for the safety of all,” Hamisu said.
Responding to questions by journalists, the suspect confessed to committing the crime, saying that it was an abandoned three-faced prepaid meter he removed.
When contacted, Mr Sani Bala-Sani, the Head of Corporate Communications of KEDCO, said that the matter is still under investigation as they are still in discussion with the regional office to get the details of the situation.
He therefore emphasised that “We are already speaking to our office in Katsina to find out the actual situation, hence it cannot be a concluded case.”
