NSA commends Airforce for joining fight against cancer campaign

The National Security Adviser NSA, Maj Gen Babagana Monguno (Retd) has commended the Nigerian Air force for leading in the campaign against cancer through the establishment of cancer screening centres nationwide.

Mongunu made the commendation yesterday while commissioning a brand new cancer screening centre established by the Nigerian Air force at their base hospital in Maiduguri.

According to Monguno: “I’m told that this is the fourth cancer screening centre that is being commissioned by the NAF. This is indeed a remarkable contribution by the service towards the global efforts at reducing the encumbrances of cancers affecting our people

“I’m therefore glad to be associated with this determination by the leadership of Nigerian Air Force. It is hoped that, the cancer screening centre would provide for personnel and their families as well as the civilian populace, the opportunity to engage in regular check-ups in other to alleviate the afflictions associated with malignances.

Remarking, the Chief of Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said the dedicated cancer screening centre is the first of its kind in Borno state and will be of services to both members of Air force family, armed forces and indeed the entire Public and good people of the state.

Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar added that the state of the art equipments in the center will go a long way in helping to discover cancers at early stages when cure is more likely to be successful and thereby increasing the rate of survival of sufferers.

In his address, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima represented by his deputy Mamman Durkwa thanked the Air Chief and his team for building a cancer screening centre in Maiduguri.

Shettima added that the initiative will no doubt go a long way in alleviating the health challenges facing the entire Borno People.

“The commissioning of the cancer screening centre will no doubt go down in the history of Nigeria as a clear evidence that the Airforce is moving in a positive direction not only towards fulfilling its mandate of securing the territorial integrity of the nation, but also championing the issue of health care delivery within the Armed forces “, remarked the Governor.

The Nigerian Airforce and Army have been involved in massive contribution to the health of IDP’s within the north east of Nigeria since the beginning of the insurgency.
