The newly appointed Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Mr Baffa Dan Agundi, has pledged to steer NPC towards achieving its mandate and national growth objectives.
The new DG also said he will work with all stakeholders, including the outgone DG, in making the agency more productive.
Mr Agundi said this at a handover event that took place at NPC headquarters in Abuja.
He also pledged to work towards actualising President Bola Tinubu administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda in the area of productivity aimed to boost the country’s economy.
At the event, Dr Nasir Raji-Mustapha, the outgone Director-General of the NPC, disclosed that the report on the new wage system based on employees’ productivity in the civil service is ready.
Although the Raji-Mustapha didn’t reveal the content of the report, he said the report will be formally presented to the new NPC boss, Baffa Dan Agundi.
Recall that the government had in May this year revealed that with the system, workers on the same level could earn different salaries.
The government said the formulation of an innovative wage system was being considered because it realised that productivity was a key factor in the growth of the country’s economy.
The former DG also said the agency was on the verge of creating productivity desks across all the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
This, he said, will enhance the outputs from workers or staff of companies or organisations and, in turn, help the country to move forward.
“We are researchers, we are teachers here. We help the private sector to build the productivity of their staff.
“We are doing a lot in this agency and we believe that you will help us push forward a lot of things we are doing in this agency. In fact, the productivity-based wage performance system we are working on is ready. I will hand it over to you. Help carry some of those innovative ideas forward,” Dr Raji-Mustapha said.
He also disclosed that the current location of the centre was rented, saying the NPC needed a bigger space to make productivity more entrenched across the country.
According to him, he had met with the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to see whether the agency could get one of the forfeited properties.
