The Presidency has described some northerners who criticise President Bola Tinubu’s administration as those who believe political power is their entitlement.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made this known during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday.
“If I ask you, and very bluntly, to tell me a singular ordinary citizen in the North or group of citizens in the North who say there is a growing agitation against President Bola Tinubu, you will not find one. So what you are hearing now are a set of people in the North who believe it is their birthright to be in government,” Bwala said.
He accused some individuals who were part of the previous administration of seeking to remain at the centre of power even under a new government.
“Some of them were in the past government for eight years. After a new government has come, they want to be in the center of attention in the government. And this government believes in equal distribution of opportunities to those who have not had the privilege.
“They are angry and form a group that wants to remove the government. They are now scattered like sheep without the shepherd in the wilderness,” he added.
This comes amid criticisms of Tinubu’s government by prominent northern political figures, including former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

Tribune Online reports that Lawal recently advised northern governors to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics, Lawal alleged that the APC has failed the North and that any northern elected official seeking re-election under the party is unlikely to succeed.
“Which northern elected official will go to campaign on the platform of the APC this coming election? Nobody. Unless ab initio, you have no plan to win election. I can’t see anywhere,” he said.
He claimed the Tinubu-led government has marginalised the region and failed to initiate visible infrastructure projects, a position echoed by former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“No projects are going on — at least they are not visible to the eye. Maybe in their imagination, maybe in the spirit — but we don’t see it,” Lawal said.
