The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Christian body for the next first years.
This development is coming after the tenure of the previous executives expired since May, 2022.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the newly elected Chairman of CAN 19 Northern States and FCT, Reverend Joseph John Hayab, expressed gratitude for the trust CAN Northern states has bestowed on them to lead their efforts towards fostering unity, peace, and development in the northern region.
While noting that there is huge task ahead, Reverend Hayab said in recent years, Christian communities in the north have faced immense challenges that have tested their faith, courage, and commitment to one another.
He said they have witnessed divisions that have threatened their unity, violence that has shattered their peace, and hardships that have hindered their development.
āBut today, we stand here to affirm that we will not be defined by our struggles. We are defined by our resilience, our capacity for love, and our unwavering hope for a brighter future.
āWe are a diverse community, embodying a rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and beliefs. This diversity is not a weakness; rather, it is our strength.
āIn our shared spaces, we find the opportunity to learn from one another, to build bridges where walls have been erected, and to create a harmonious co-existence that speaks to the inclusive nature of our faithā, he noted.
He said as a new Executive, he propose some key pillars that will guide their efforts which include Dialogue and Collaboration, Community Development Initiatives, Advocacy for Justice and Equality and Integrity in Service.
āThe path ahead will undoubtedly be challenging, but we believe that together we can overcome any obstacle. Let us call upon our faith to inspire us, our community to support us, and our love for one another to guide us.
āI urge each and every one of us to commit to this vision of unity, peace, and development. Let us work hand in hand to build a future where our children can thrive in a society that values harmony, respects diversity and promotes prosperity for allā, he added.
