Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has asserted that he cannot be accused of corruption during his tenure as a public officeholder.
He made this declaration on Thursday during the Michael Okpara Leadership Lecture and Award 2024, held at the Musa Yar’ Adua Centre in Abuja.
During his speech, Governor Uzodinma emphasised the importance of public officials living within their legitimate means and avoiding corrupt practices.
He attributed the prevalence of corruption in Nigeria to factors such as the inordinate quest for wealth and a lack of discipline.
In his lecture titled Service Above Others: Lessons from the Leadership Philosophy of Michael Okpara, Governor Uzodinma urged political leaders to emulate the legacy of the late Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Michael Okpara, to foster a more prosperous country.
He also provided an update on the ongoing rehabilitation of the Egbema power plant, announcing that the project is expected to be completed and commissioned in the first quarter of 2025.
The governor highlighted the importance of the project in providing 24-hour electricity across all areas of Imo State.
The event was attended by notable figures, including the Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Otu; Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Patricia Obila; former First Lady of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan; as well as past and serving lawmakers.
