Over 100 participants of the Summer School camp organised by the Ogun State Government, have been charged to display high level of commitment and determination to education.
The charge was made by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, while hosting the youths participating in the two weeks programme, ongoing at the Model School, Ewekoro, on Saturday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.
The participants, had earlier in the day, embarked on a two kilometres endurance trek from Akin-Olugbade Social Centre, Ita -Iyalode to the Government House at Oke-Igbein.
Governor Amosun received the students in company with his wife, Olufunke, and his deputy, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, the State Commissioner for Education,Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, and advised them to work harder in fulfilling their educational purposes.
The governor said his administration would continue to invest in the education sector, noting that the Summer Camp programme would kick-start the commencement of operations of the model schools in September for the 2016/2017 academic session.
He said, “The stepping stone to greatness is hardwork, there is no shortcut; and one thing that is a leveller, whether you are son of the rich or the poor, is education. Once you have education, you will mix and mingle with kings and queens.
“If you are well read and educated, there is no barrier for you in life. That is why it’s very key that all you are taught in this summer camp, imbibe and take it along wherever you go.”
Mujota in her remarks appreciated the governor for supporting the initiative by providing the enabling environment and resources to actualise the model schools.
Mujota said the summer camp initiative was aimed at engaging children constructively during the ongoing holiday.
