Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, has said there is no going back on the downward review of workers’ salaries, in view of the current economic downturn affecting the state and the country at large.
The governor made his position known on Wednesday, when he played host to top government functionaries who paid Sallah homage to the governor, at the Government House in Lafia.
He explained that, the review became imperative, given the dwindling revenue accruing to the state coffers, saying he could not continue to vote such amount to workers, who constituted just one per cent of the state’s population
The governor, who decried the high level of unemployment in the state, said if workers salaries were reviewed, opportunities would be created for young graduates without jobs.
He added that workers’ salaries in the state was bogus, noting that other projects could not be embarked on with the current salary template.
He also urged workers to accept the review in good fate, and return back to work in the interest of the state.
