No going back on convention, says PDP

The National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan has said that the plans of the party to host its convention at the end of the month stand, irrespective of the views that suggest otherwise.

He noted that the party cannot do otherwise, following speculations by anyone, of any court injunction, especially as the party does not have any judgement of any court to do otherwise.

He maintained that as part of the preparation for the event slated for the next few days, the chairman of the convention was already in town to discharge his duty at the party.

His words: “As far as the People’s Democratic Party is concerned, the party does not work on speculations.

“The party does not have a judgment before the party. You cannot be talking about court issues, it is only when there is a judgment before the court, that we will begin to talk about court issues.

“As far as the party is concerned, all the plans that have been set out for the national convention were on.

“The preparations for the national convention are in place, as far as the party is concerned, the date for the convention remains October 30 to 31st.

“As we speak, we read reports in so many media space that there are issues and that only three governors are working. We also heard that the national convention committee is not meeting and the National Working Committee (NWC) members are not in their offices.

“That is totally and absolutely incorrect, and some of your colleagues went upstairs into the National Committee Hall, to meet with members of the National Working Committee, who are taking their respective seats, and they are deliberating on the success of the forthcoming national convention.

“So I want to bring to the attention of my dear colleagues, that the national convention organizing committees leadership is in town.

“These are the chairman, the governor of Adamawa state governor, Mr. Umaru Fintiri, the Deputy Chairman, Governor Diri Duoye, the governor of Bayelsa state, as well as the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde who is the Secretary of the committee.

“The three of them, are in Abuja to oversight, the convention process, while all the respective subcommittees are working and that’s why I am briefing you now because am the Secretary of the publicity subcommittee.

“All the committees are working at about 15 sub-committees for the purpose of the convention, and they’re all working, and the leadership of the Convention Committee as well are in town, and they’re all working as well.

“I want to assure you that we’ve secured the venues for the convention and this is the Eagle square, as well as the point where delegates who arrive will be moved to the Eagle square. So, in truth, the convention plans are on the way, and there are no issues as far as a national convention is concerned as we speak.”
