The Anambra State Police Command, on Wednesday, says there was no gunmen attack at Hausa community, in Atani, in Ogbaru local government area of the state, as being speculated in some quarters.
Tribune Online reports that there was a rumour making the round about another attack by gunmen in Atani which claimed seven lives in Hausa community.
The remour said that the attack took place from 12 am to 3 am on Tuesday. And that they have disarmed local security at Amiyi and another community in Ogbaru LGA.
Reacting on the development, the State Command’s spokeperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the was no attack in Hausa Community in Atani.
According to him, to set the records straight, Police Operatives in the early hours on 18/4/2022 foil an attempt of arson by some miscreants at Ogbaru LGA. The Police Operatives engage and resisted the hoodlums from causing damage on the LGA structure.
The hoodlums in a bid to escape, started shooting sporadically and unfortunately a bullet hit some persons while seven other persons where fatally wounded during the foiled arson in the LGA. Further details reveals that the persons affected are civilian guards and motorcycle operators working in and within the local government area.
Meanwhile, police operatives have since taken over the area and calm has also return in the area.
