The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) is set to make crucial decisions at its forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, scheduled to hold on Thursday, 28th August 2025, in Abuja. Indications have emerged that far-reaching resolutions will be taken at the meeting as the party strategises ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the meeting would deliberate on the impending congresses and national convention, review the recent bye-election, and consider mass mobilisation and registration of new members. The party will also deliberate on the ongoing constitutional review with a view to presenting its position on critical issues towards safeguarding the nation’s democracy.

The statement, however, clarified that notwithstanding insinuations in the public domain or analyses by political commentators regarding permutations ahead of the 2027 elections, the party remains open to several intervening political variables essentially tied to its founding principles and values. It also added that the NNPP may support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
“Specifically, on the various insinuations by analysts and public opinion regarding where the NNPP stands ahead of the 2027 general elections, our position remains what we have consistently stated.
“And this is to the effect that politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must always align with our principles and values. The question of national interest is also crucial.
“To this extent, the NNPP is still open to the three options we have mentioned in the past: to form an alliance or coalition, to remain as NNPP and prosecute the election as an independent entity, or to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election.
“These three options will be discussed at our NEC meeting on the 28th of August 2025. We therefore appeal to all our members to remain calm, as the ultimate decisions will be taken in the best interest of the people,” the statement read.
The NNPP also called on its members to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), either by registering afresh or reviewing their existing details, and to prepare for the nationwide mass mobilisation and registration of new members, which will commence soon.
