The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, has appealed to civil servants in the state to remain calm and patient following delays in the payment of salaries to some workers due to a technical glitch experienced by the bank handling the salary disbursement.

The Chairman of the Kano State NLC, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, said the problem occurred during the processing of workers’ salaries, resulting in some employees receiving double payments, while others who had initially received their salaries later had the duplicated amount withdrawn from their accounts by the bank.

He explained that the technical error also left some workers yet to receive their salaries, creating anxiety among affected civil servants.

Inuwa said the labour union understood the hardship caused by the situation and appealed to workers to exercise patience, assuring them that the Office of the Head of Service, the Accountant-General and the Secretary to the State Government were working to resolve the issue and ensure that all affected workers received their legitimate salaries.

He commended workers who voluntarily returned salaries that were mistakenly paid into their accounts twice, describing their action as responsible and worthy of commendation.

According to him, the cooperation of workers would assist the authorities and the bank in resolving the problem quickly and restoring the salary payment process to normal.

The NLC chairman also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its commitment to the prompt and regular payment of workers’ salaries.

He noted that the union recognised the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare and his efforts to sustain timely salary payments despite the challenges associated with the salary processing system.

Inuwa assured workers that the NLC would continue to engage relevant government authorities and closely monitor the situation until all affected employees received their salaries.

He also urged workers to avoid unnecessary speculation, stressing that concerted efforts were being made to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
