The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) Oyo State Branch strongly condemns the brutal murder and subsequent beheading of a survey technician by suspected ritualists in the Moniya area of Ibadan on Saturday.
In a statement by its Chairman, Survey Lamidi Waheed Abiodun, NIS expressed its outrage at this heinous act. Although the deceased was not a registered surveyor and certainly not a member of NIS, the organisation firmly denounces this horrific crime.
The statement reads, “We are deeply saddened by his gruesome murder, especially the gruesome act of beheading by heartless criminals suspected of killing him for ritual purposes. We pray that God grants the family the strength to bear this immense loss.
“Information available to the NIS confirms that the deceased was a survey technician or draughtsman until his untimely death.
“The NIS in Oyo State commends the Oyo State Police Command for apprehending the suspected killers. We expect the command to build on this success by diligently prosecuting the suspects.
“The NIS in Oyo State calls on the government to provide adequate security for its members across the state to enable us to carry out our work in a safe environment.
“We urge all security agencies to collaborate with community leaders to enhance security in the bushy areas where surveyors frequently work.
“Security agencies should also publicise their contact telephone lines and other communication channels to make it easier for residents to reach out to them with valuable information that can help prevent crimes and lead to the arrest of suspected criminals.”
