NIPR stresses need for citizens-derived solutions to regalvanize Nigeria’s nationhood

The need to seek citizen-derived solutions and actions based on a people-to-people approach to re-galvanise the nationhood in order to win the ongoing agitation from across the country has been stressed.

The assertion was made by the President and Chairman of Council of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Mukhtar Zubairu Sirajo on Thursday in Bauchi at the 2021 Annual General meeting and elections of Bauchi Chapter, held at the Hazibal suite hall.

He added that the NIPR platform will restore communication among Nigerians which will in turn foster trust saying that the Institute is making efforts to restore the unity and trust among Nigerians by creating a platform to engage citizens in a dialogue in order to find solutions to problems bedevilling the nation.

The President and Chairman of the Council of NIPR, also said that the country is going through very challenging times, pointing out that there is an urgent need for the restoration of peace, security, confidence and mutual understanding in the nation.

He said that “NIPR is worried about the happenings in the country, you cannot dismiss the fact that trust has been broken down among Nigerians. The fabrics that has held us as a people has become so thin that it can break anytime. Today, the situation is so terrible that everybody is sitting at their comfort zones and pointing accusing fingers at each other”

Mukhtar Sirajo further said that “This country can be better than it is today and all NIPR is trying to do is for us to admit that we have a problem and discover where we missed it.”

According to him, “In Nigeria’s case, our yesterdays are better than today, we are constantly nostalging our yesterday’s. Do not allow anybody to deceive you that diversity is a curse, it is a blessing. Every generation should do its best to outshine the generation it inherited.”

Also speaking at the occasion, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir said that the annual general meeting of the state chapter of the NIPR is coming after a successful hosting of the national annual general meeting of the institute which is the first of it’s kind in the North-east sub-region since the establishment of the institute in 1963, pointing out that it is an achievement worthy of commendation.

Represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor said that the national general meeting of the institute witnessed the conferment on him, the fellowship of the institute and the grand patron in Bauchi State, just as he commended the institute for partnering with his administration.

Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir pledged that the state government would continue to support the activities of the institute especially in the area of training of its members commending the professional role NIPR is playing in the projection of the image of the country in a positive stance.

The Governor described NIPR as a major stakeholder in the Nigerian project stressing that what the country needs now to win the ongoing war against insecurity is positive information dissemination which only NIPR can effectively do.

He then challenged the incoming leadership of the Bauchi Chapter to collaborate with his administration on projecting the activities of the government in a good light by educating the populace on acts of governance.

Speaking earlier, Chapter Chairman, Kabir Ali Kobi stated that newly inducted 15 members were drawn from the Nigerian Army university, Biu and the University of Maiduguri, Borno state as well as the federal university, Gashua in Yobe state.

He further added that apart from the public sector, members were also attracted from private organizations noting that the aim of the registration is to promote professionalism in the practice of public relations in the nation.
