Nine arrested for open defecation in Lagos

In a bid to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the state, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has apprehended nine individuals caught engaging in open defecation in the Berger area.

According to the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the arrests were made on Friday night.

In a social media post, Wahab stated that the individuals were caught red-handed engaging in open urination and defecation, emphasizing the state’s zero-tolerance stance on such unsanitary practices.

Wahab had earlier disclosed that 17 individuals were arrested on Thursday night at Berger for open urination, defecation, and not using the pedestrian bridge.

The state government’s zero-tolerance stance on open defecation is part of its broader efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for residents.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources also commenced cleanup of the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its effort to end open defecation.
