The National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), an organ of the National Assembly, and the University of Benin (UNIBEN), have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to include PhD programmes in more disciplines.
The two sides signed the renewed MoU on Thursday in Abuja to build on a collaboration that has lasted over 10 years, focusing on postgraduate education, research, capacity building, and policy development.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, described the renewal as a milestone in a relationship that has consistently contributed to research, policy development, and higher education in the country.
Sulaiman stated that the MoU goes beyond another agreement to a reaffirmation of a partnership that has delivered real value for national development. He added that both institutions remain committed to academic excellence, quality postgraduate training, and strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.
The DG announced that the expanded partnership now includes a PhD in Law, Policy and Legislation and a PhD in Social Science, Politics and Governance. According to him, the programmes are designed to build research capacity, produce high-level professionals, and develop leadership for public service.
